Accredited Practising Dietitian (APD) is the only credential recognised by the Australian Government, Medicare, the Department of Veterans Affairs and most private health funds as the quality standard for nutrition and dietetics services in Australia.
This means as an individual client of Shivaun’s, you may be eligible for rebates from your private health insurer, Medicare or the Department of Veteran Affairs.
Private Health Fund Rebates
Generous private health fund rebates are available from most major health funds, depending on your level of extras cover. Ask your private health care fund about Dietetic consultations.
Shivaun is a registered provider for Medicare. A Medicare rebate is available for patients referred by a GP under a Chronic Disease Management (formally Enhanced Primary Care or EPC) Program – simply ask your GP whether you qualify.
The Dietitians Association of Australia (DAA) is the national association of the dietetics profession in Australia. The DAA has developed credentialing systems for the titles ‘Accredited Practising Dietitian’ (APD) and ‘Accredited Nutritionist’ (AN) which are protected by law, and only qualified practitioners who have met certain requirements can use these titles. All APDs have completed a minimum of a University degree accredited by DAA, a specified level of continuing education and professional development reviewed annually by DAA.
