Nutrition Genetic Testing

Nutrition Genetic Testing

When it comes to your diet, a one-size-fits all approach may not lead to optimal health. Research has shown that personalized dietary advice based on your DNA is more valuable than general population-based recommendations. Nutrition Genetic Testing is a simple DNA test of your genetic profile that can be used to develop a dietary plan that is tailored to your specific genes!

The answer may be in your genes!

In 480 BC, Hippocrates noted that “positive health requires knowledge of man’s primary constitution”. This was just an ancient way of saying that we cannot achieve optimum health without knowing about our genes. We now know that specific variations in our genes can explain how we will respond to the foods, beverages and supplements we consume.

Health & Wellness Test (45-Gene)

This comprehensive genetic test consists of a panel of 45 genetic markers that enable your healthcare professional to provide you with personalized nutrition advice and physical activity recommendations tailored to your DNA. This test can help you determine how you respond to key components of your diet as well as physical activity. The results of this test can impact weight loss & body composition, nutrient metabolism, heart health, food intolerances, and eating habits. The test also provides you with information related to the relationship between your genes and athletic performance & injury risk. Your test results are presented in a customized report, which includes dietary and physical activity recommendations based on your individual genetic profile.

The test results are presented in a customized report (PDF and print) containing dietary recommendations based on your individual results.

Personalised Nutrition Assessment (7-Gene)

The Personalised Nutrition Assessment (7 gene test) consists of a panel of seven genetic markers that enable your healthcare professional to provide you with personalized nutritional recommendations based on your DNA. This test determines how your body responds to:

  • Sodium
  • Caffeine

The test results are presented in a customized report (PDF and print) containing dietary recommendations based on your individual results.

NGx-Gluten Intolerance Test

NGx-Gluten™ is the most comprehensive genetic test for gluten intolerance and analyzes six variations in the HLA gene region. The scientific evidence clearly shows that HLA is the most important genetic predictor of gluten intolerance. NGx-Gluten™ is the only genetic test of its kind that is available exclusively through healthcare professionals. The test results reveal whether you have a low, medium or high risk of gluten intolerance and it provides a personalized nutrition report complete with recommendations and various resources.

What is Gluten?

Gluten is a protein found in wheat, barley, rye and products made from these grains. Many foods that contain gluten provide fibre from whole grains and can be an excellent source of vitamins and minerals. But, for some people, gluten can cause severe digestive problems leading to nutrient malabsorption, anemia and many serious health problems. Celiac disease represents the most severe form of gluten intolerance and affects about 1% of the population. Another 5% of the population may have non-celiac gluten sensitivity (NCGS), which results in various gastrointestinal problems and other health issues.

Research has shown that the human leukocyte antigen (HLA) gene is the most important genetic predictor of gluten intolerance. Approximately 99% of people with celiac disease and 60% of those with NCGS have the DQ2 or DQ8 risk version of the HLA gene, compared to only 30% of the general population.
